The Perkins Pirates will square off against the Columbian Tornadoes at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Perkins is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Perkins is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Ross just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Little Giants by a score of 6-5.
Perkins got a good showing from Josh Cummings, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
On the hitting side, Braxden Martin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Columbian). They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over Sandusky on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Blake Gaulden was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025. Johnny Bremyer was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Columbian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Columbian's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-7. As for Perkins, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Columbian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Perkins hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. It's a different story for Columbian, though, as they've only averaged .211. Will they be able to contain Perkins' hitters?
Everything went Perkins' way against Columbian in their previous meeting on April 8th, as Perkins made off with an 8-2 win. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tornadoes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
