The Ansley/Litchfield Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 43-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Burwell. Ansley/Litchfield has not had much luck with Burwell recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Ansley/Litchfield had strong showings from Kerry Ryan, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, and Caydence Feldman, who scored nine points along with four steals. Ryan has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played.
Burwell's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Mann, who scored 17 points. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for her. Kaitlyn Hughes was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds.
Ansley/Litchfield's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Burwell, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ansley/Litchfield will face off against Amherst at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Amherst presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Ansley/Litchfield in Nebraska (Amherst is ranked 87th, while Ansley/Litchfield is ranked 253rd). Burwell and Central Valley will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 4th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Central Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
