Volleyball Recap: Cruz Hibbard Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Johansen

If Johansen wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Beyer, they should've done a better job of containing Jordan Sao Rodriguez. Everything went the Beyer Patriots' way against the Johansen Vikings on Wednesday as the Beyer Patriots made off with a 3-0 victory thanks in part to Sao Rodriguez, who had eight aces and five assists. That's the most aces he has posted since back in April of 2024.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Beyer was: they took every set by at least ten points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-7, 25-9, 25-15.

Beyer got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cruz Hibbard out in front who had 11 assists and three aces. Hibbard is on a roll when it comes to aces, as he's now served two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Brett Bird was another key player, getting three digs and three aces.

Hibbard wasn't the only good server: Beyer was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 22 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Beyer pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Johansen, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Beyer will take on Escalon at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Escalon will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Beyer surely won't give up without a fight. As for Johansen, they will head out to square off against Ceres at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
