V Section III recap Oct. 9, 2012
Morenci extended the longest winning streak in V Section III this week by beating Tombstone, 26-7. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Wildcats.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy led the league in scoring this week after putting up 56 points on Baboquivari. Grayson Barghols ran for 95 yards in the win.
Thatcher's dynamic duo of Presley Motes and Jacob Drage proved tough for Willcox to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Motes threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns and Drage had 137 yards receiving. Sam Bagnall helped Thatcher's passing attack out by catching two balls for 62 yards.
Motes made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Eagles defeated the Cowboys. The 6-foot-3 senior grabbed one interception and forced one fumble.
Thatcher's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Eagles feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Motes has thrown for 1008 yards and 15 touchdowns this season, while Drage has 32 catches for 598 yards. Garet Kartchner leads the league in rushing with 686 yards.
A big matchup in V Section III this week will be when Benson takes on Thatcher. At the moment, the Bobcats are in fifth, while Dave Jefferies' team is in second.
