Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The John Paul II Catholic Saints, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 22-15 to Rocky Mount Academy on Friday. John Paul II Catholic was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Rocky Mount Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.
Keiveon Moore and Latavius Moore certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Moore rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown, while Moore picked up 40 receiving yards and a touchdown. Moore was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards.
Marti Mcknight was his usual excellent self, rushing for 100 yards and a touchdown, while also picking up 39 receiving yards. Rocky Mount Academy also got a significant boost from Jordan Wright, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.
John Paul II Catholic's loss was their third straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 6-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-1 Wayne Christian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 70.9% over those games). As for Rocky Mount Academy, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
John Paul II Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Rocky Mount Academy will face off against Halifax Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Halifax Academy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
