6A Region 4 recap Oct. 16, 2012
D'Iberville extended the longest winning streak in 6A Region 4 this week by beating Hancock, 17-10. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Ocean Springs was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Harrison Central. The Greyhounds came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 28 last week.
Jaylen Woullard put up the best numbers through the air as Biloxi topped St. Martin. He finished with a total of 13 completions for 205 yards and four touchdowns. Woullard's favorite target this week was Scott Austin, who caught four passes for 80 yards.
Jesse Scott was the best wideout in the league this week as the Yellowjackets fell to the Indians. Scott racked up three receptions for 88 yards. Niecill McNair helped St. Martin's passing attack out by catching five balls for 73 yards.
Mathew Hicks was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 101 yards on five carries as Ocean Springs lost to Biloxi. Daven Blakely also contributed to the rushing game with 88 yards on the ground.
The Greyhounds' Wes Windham and Ishmel Morrow have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 6A Region 4 in both passing and receiving yards. Windham has thrown for 1436 yards this season, while Morrow has 51 catches for 745 yards. Gulfport's Christian Williams leads the league in rushing yards with 662.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place D'Iberville takes on second place Gulfport. Last week, D'Iberville beat the Hawks, while the Admirals topped George County.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Gulfport takes on Buddy Singleton's team. Mike Justice's team has allowed 129 points this season, while the Warriors have given up 70. The Admirals allowed 6 points last week as they topped the Rebels.
Gulfport was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Admirals defeated George County 47-6 earlier in the week.
