Capuchino and Hillsdale are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will head out to challenge the Fighting Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Capuchino is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Capuchino took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand San Mateo an 11-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their one-run performance the game before.

Lola Sierra made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and three doubles. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Capuchino let Dana Motroni and Star Gutierrez run wild. Motroni went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Gutierrez got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most RBI Motroni has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Motroni, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Capuchino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Mateo only posted an OBP of .062.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Hillsdale's offense. They fell just short of Burlingame by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday. The Fighting Knights' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Hillsdale saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Shelton, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Capuchino pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Hillsdale, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7-1.
Both Capuchino and Hillsdale just can't seem to miss. The Mustangs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Hillsdale struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
