Edgewood is on a 21-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while the Wildcats are on a 12-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Edgewood Bulldogs will take on the Rains Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Edgewood has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
Edgewood stacked a 14th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Grand Saline 66-18 on the road. With Edgewood ahead 38-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Edgewood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Blair McPherson, who scored 23 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which McPherson has scored at least a third of Edgewood's points. Another player making a difference was Kassidy Paul, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Rains strolled past the Tigers with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 54-39. Given Rains' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Tigers are ranked 266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Edgewood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season. As for Rains, their win bumped their record up to 30-2.
Edgewood ended up a good deal behind the Wildcats in their previous matchup back in January, losing 49-34. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Rains' Jasey Campbell, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Now that Edgewood knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
