John Paul II is 2-8 against Hilton Head Christian Academy since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Golden Warrriors will venture away from home to challenge the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. John Paul II is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
Last Thursday, John Paul II got the win against Coastal HomeSchool by a conclusive 15-2. The result was nothing new for the Golden Warrriors, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Archer Dewig made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Dewig was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Landon Davis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base was his first of the season. Aiden Michaud was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
John Paul II always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coastal HomeSchool only posted an OBP of .286.
Meanwhile, Hilton Head Christian Academy entered their tilt with Tallulah Falls on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Indians.
The team relied heavily on Roman Colella, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Eli Morgan, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
John Paul II's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hilton Head Christian Academy, their record now sits at 13-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. John Paul II has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hilton Head Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
John Paul II might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Hilton Head Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Golden Warrriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
