The Berry Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They took a 53-38 bruising from Vina. Berry has struggled against the Red Devils recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Berry lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maggie Mauldin. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Shayla Mayfield, who scored three points along with 14 rebounds and two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vina to victory, but perhaps none more so than Layla Hester, who scored 20 points along with five assists and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hester has scored all season. Kaley Attaway was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Berry has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which lines up perfectly with their 4-16 record this season. As for Vina, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-17.
Berry will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. Lamar County is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Vina, they will head out on the road to take on the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
