Make it 11 blowout wins for the St. Johns Country Day Spartans this season. They blew past Covenant School of Jacksonville 66-30 at home. Given St. Johns Country Day's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Covenant School of Jacksonville is ranked 429th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Johns Country Day was led to victory by Kendall Proffitt and Mary Kate Kent. Proffitt scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, while Kent shot 5-for-9 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 33 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kent has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Mejias, who scored eight points.
Covenant School of Jacksonville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Finley Johns, who scored five points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Covenant School of Jacksonville struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as St. Johns Country Day racked up 14 assists.
St. Johns Country Day's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points per game. As for Covenant School of Jacksonville, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Johns Country Day will challenge Clay at 12:30 p.m. on Monday. Covenant School of Jacksonville's road trip will continue as they head out to face Eagle's View at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th. Eagle's View will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
