High school girls basketball rankings: Ontario Christian jumps to No. 1 in the MaxPreps Top 25 after 14-0 start

Ontario Christian (Ontario, Calif.) climbs to the No. 1 spot in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school girls basketball rankings after winning a pair of games in the Bahamas over the weekend, including an 82-43 victory over No. 14 Incarnate Word Academy (St. Louis, Mo.). The Knights are piling up points and winning big behind junior Kaleena Smith, who is third nationally in scoring at 34.9 point per game.

No. 2 Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.) cleared the way for Ontario Christian's elevation after an impressive run in the Nike Tournament of Champions. The Maryland program claimed its first TOC title in 22 years with wins over No. 3 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.) in the semifinals and National Top 10 No. 1 Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) in the championship game.

Archbishop Mitty, the preseason No. 1, plays Ontario Christian on Jan. 10 while Bishop McNamara gets the Knights on Jan. 16.

Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.), which plays No. 6 Etiwanda (Calif.) today in the Tarkanian Classic final, is one of two new teams to the rankings this week. The Gaels come in at No. 23 while 19-0 Wagner (San Antonio, Texas) enters at No. 25.
