After having lost a blowout in their previous game against McDowell, the North Buncombe Black Hawks were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They came out on top against Enka by a score of 59-47. Given North Buncombe's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Enka is ranked 395th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading North Buncombe to victory were Aubrey Gilliland and Edmonds Gracie. Gilliland scored 11 points along with eight steals and five assists, while Gracie scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Metcalf, who scored nine points.
Enka's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Averi Coggins, who scored ten points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Ali Crook, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
North Buncombe's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Enka, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.
North Buncombe will head out on the road to face off against Erwin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Enka won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against T.C. Roberson at 4:30 p.m. on January 18th. T.C. Roberson is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
