Softball Recap: South Lakes Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

South Lakes won the last time they faced Chantilly and things went their way on Thursday too. The Seahawks were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Chargers. The Seahawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Meagan Maguire was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Fiona Shaw and Sydney Zeigler did most of the damage at the plate: Shaw scored four runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5, while Zeigler scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those four runs gave Shaw a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Rudolph, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

South Lakes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chantilly only posted an OBP of .273.

South Lakes pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Chantilly, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, South Lakes will host Herndon at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Seahawks 3.6, the Hornets 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Chantilly, they will head out on the road to face off against James Madison at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warhawks will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight.
