Lapel came out on top against University by a score of 50-42. Given Lapel's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while University is ranked 165th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lapel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Laniah Wills led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds. Wills has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Madelyn Poynter was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five assists and three steals.
Despite the loss, University saw an underclassman step up: Charlotte Conyers scored 15 points along with four steals. Conyers has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Anyah Jordan-Turley, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Lapel has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. As for University, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-10.
Lapel will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Wapahani at 6:00 p.m. As for University, they will head out on the road to challenge Heritage Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
