Football Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Rockmart

Rockmart waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Sonoraville Phoenix 50-28. The Yellowjackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 22 points or more this season.

Rockmart's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Green led the charge by picking up 148 receiving yards and three scores. Those three receiving touchdowns gave Green a new career-high. Nate Davis handled things on the ground, rushing for 165 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Rockmart was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 271 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Rockmart didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Maxin Ware, Jamari Samples, and Qua Alexander picked up one apiece. Samples got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Defeat or not, Sonoraville got some senior leadership from Chaz Pate and Langston Butler. Pate threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns, while Butler picked up 144 receiving yards and one TD. Those 144 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for Butler.

Rockmart's record is now 5-1. As for Sonoraville, they moved to 4-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Rockmart is set to challenge their familiar foe North Cobb Christian at 7:30 p.m. on October 10. Meanwhile, Sonoraville will take on rival North Murray at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 832 yards in their previous games.
