Chase Monnin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Versailles' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ben Subler, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mississinawa Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for last Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Randolph Southern, sneaking past 6-4. The Blackhawks haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Cole McGlothlin, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Hiestand, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.
Mississinawa Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Versailles pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mississinawa Valley, their record is now 5-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Versailles has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mississinawa Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
