The Spring Valley Grizzlies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 63-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Desert Pines. Spring Valley found out winning isn't easy when you drain eight fewer threes than your opponent.
When it comes to explaining why Spring Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alijah Adem. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. Adem scored a full 35.2% of Spring Valley's points, the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ethan Shuford was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Desert Pines got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Damonte Duhart out in front who dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 21 rebounds, and ten assists. Duhart is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Joe Brown, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.
Spring Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Desert Pines, their win bumped their record up to 3-7.
Spring Valley will head out on the road to face off against Liberty at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Liberty knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Spring Valley likes a good challenge. As for Desert Pines, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Foothill at 6:30 p.m.
