The Laurel Highlands Mustangs were the 59-56 winner over the Gateway Gators when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Laurel Highlands was dealt a 82-43 defeat at the hands of Gateway on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Laurel Highlands has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Laurel Highlands lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aiden Black. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points. The game was Black's third in a row with at least ten points. Luke Martin was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Laurel Highlands has fallen quite a ways from their 25-4 record last season and are now at 2-5. As for Gateway, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Laurel Highlands will be home for the holidays to greet McKeesport at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. McKeesport is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. Gateway will finish 2023 at home by hosting Bishop Guilfoyle at 4:30 p.m. on December 30th.
