Football Recap: Alina Barzaga Leads Leonard's Defense on Thursday

While Leonard put up some points on Thursday, the same can't be said for St. John Paul II Academy. The Leonard Lancers took down the St. John Paul II Academy Eagles 19-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lancers.

Nakelyna Antoine was the offensive standout of the match as she rushed for 66 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 61 yards and one touchdown. Those 66 rushing yards gave her a new career-high. Alina Barzaga got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Leonard didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Barzaga, Jahmyah Gayle, Jenea Dieujuste, and Witney Naurelus picked up one apiece. Barzaga got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Leonard's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for St. John Paul II Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Leonard is taking a road trip to take on Dr. Joaquin Garcia at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Dr. Joaquin Garcia will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Leonard surely won't give up without a fight. As for St. John Paul II Academy, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Santaluces at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. St. John Paul II Academy is facing Santaluces at the right time seeing as Santaluces is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
