Basketball Recap: Shawnee Mission Christian Falls Despite Big Games from Alex Preston and Ben Mcclure

Shawnee Mission Christian lost against Whitefield Academy two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Shawnee Mission Christian Mustangs fell 52-45 to the Whitefield Academy Lions. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 480th in Kansas, while the Lions are ranked 195th in Missouri).

Despite the loss, Shawnee Mission Christian had strong showings from Ben McClure, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 boards, and Alex Preston, who posted eight points along with nine rebounds and five assists. McClure's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Even though they lost, Shawnee Mission Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Shawnee Mission Christian's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Whitefield Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season.

Shawnee Mission Christian will face off against St. Joseph D at 7:20 p.m. on Monday. Whitefield Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
