Cannon Knight was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rhys Coxen, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Kaden Watkins-Fleisher also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.
Meanwhile, Northwestern took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Saturday. They blew past Bladensburg 18-8. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won seven in a row.
Like Eleanor Roosevelt, Northwestern also got a great game from a two-way player: Alberto Weaver. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, Weaver didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Northwestern got a massive performance out of Nate Morrell, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four runs gave Morrell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyle Boozer-Strother, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Eleanor Roosevelt's record now sits at 3-1. As for Northwestern, their record now sits at 1-0.
