After soaring to 55 points the game before, the Watkins Mill Wolverines were a bit more limited in their matchup on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Wootton, falling 65-25. While losing is never fun, Watkins Mill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while Wootton is ranked 70th).
Wootton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taj Smith led the charge by scoring 11 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Yassine Idrissa, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Watkins Mill's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Wootton, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Watkins Mill on the road again on Monday and play against Springbrook on January 29th. As for Wootton, they will face off against Damascus at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Damascus is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
