Alcorn Central is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Kossuth is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bears will challenge the Aggies at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alcorn Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Alcorn Central is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since April 17, 2025 on Thursday. They came up short against West Union, falling 9-3. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Bears' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.
Peyton Pharr made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Kossuth won against Walnut two weeks ago with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again two weeks ago. The Aggies beat Corinth by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Aggies, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Chloe Clement made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Madeline Rhodes was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Madison Mitchell, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Kossuth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Alcorn Central's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Kossuth, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Alcorn Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Kossuth struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Alcorn Central might still be hurting after the 13-1 loss they got from Kossuth when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
