Pollok Central is 9-1 against Newton since February of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Pollok Central Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Newton Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Pollok Central is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
On Tuesday, Pollok Central earned a 48-35 victory over Pineywoods Community Academy. Given Pollok Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 453rd, while Pineywoods Community Academy is ranked 1224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wyatt Graham continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 15 points along with six steals. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dillan Hatcher, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Newton came into Friday's game having lost 12 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They snuck past Pineywoods Community Academy with a 47-42 victory two weeks ago. That five point margin sets a new team best for Newton this season.
Pollok Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season. As for Newton, their win ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-7.
Pollok Central took their victory against Newton when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 58-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pollok Central since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
