Basketball Recap: Southland Christian Piles Up the Points Against Academy of Central Florida

Southland Christian won the last time they faced Academy of Central Florida and things went their way on Thursday too. The FLAMES really took it to the Golden Bulls for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-33 win. The FLAMES have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 27 points or more this season.

Kedwin Hawkins produced another solid effort going 9-for-11 to rack up 20 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Those five steals gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ismael Perez, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Southland Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They are 8-1 when they've passed the ball that well.

With the victory, Southland Christian broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-3. As for Academy of Central Florida, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southland Christian won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against IMG Academy Blue at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. As for Academy of Central Florida, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Balboa Sunshine at 4:00 p.m. on February 3, 2026.
