After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, The Depew Hornets brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They blew past Summit Christian Academy 64-26 at home. Considering Depew has won three games by more than 37 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Depew's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jack Johnson led the charge by rushing for 234 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, while also picking up 59 receiving yards. Johnson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Tyler Burdick was another key contributor, rushing for 74 yards and three touchdowns.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was James Logan, who rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Matlock, who threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Depew's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Summit Christian Academy, their loss was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-9.
Depew will face off against Davenport at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oklahoma (Davenport is ranked 41st, while Depew is ranked 32nd). Summit Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
