Golden Empire League recap October 29, 2013
Mesa Verde lost to Capital Christian 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Diante Porter was a bright spot for the Mavericks, as he ran for 22 yards and caught 2 passes for 25 yards in the loss.
Dixon made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,932 from 11,229. The improvement was largely due to a 45-6 victory over West Campus last week.
Jacob Norville threw for 185 yards and 4 touchdowns.
David Duncan was the most successful running back in Golden Empire League this week. In 4 carries, he ran for 116 yards as Marysville bested Mesa Verde. Teammate Francisco Garcia added to the ground attack by rushing for 75 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Tanner Minton of Ronald Barney's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 516. He has also thrown 4 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Shelton-mosley. The Capital Christian star has 17 catches for 394 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Capital Christian takes on second place West Campus. Last week, Capital Christian beat the Mavericks, while the Warriors lost to the Rams.
Garcia of the the Indians is just 56 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Garcia has rushed for 944 yards on 128 carries so far this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Phil Grams' team takes on West Campus. The Cougars have allowed 108 points this season, while Nate Harris' team has given up 123. Capital Christian allowed 0 points last week as it bested Mesa Verde.
