The Cumby Trojans fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Boles Hornets on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 94-83 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hornets. Cumby's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Despite the loss, Cumby still got an impressive performance from Chett Vaughan, who shot 8-for-18 from long range and dropped a double-double on 37 points and 11 rebounds. Vaughan hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Evans, who scored 18 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Boles had a senior duo take command as Jonathan Cruthird dropped a double-double on 32 points and 11 rebounds and Zyheir Lucas shot 4-for-5 from deep and dropped a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds. Cruthird hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Another player making a difference was Zion Mcfadden, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Cumby has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season. As for Boles, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-12.
Cumby will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Fruitvale at 6:30 p.m. Cumby is facing Fruitvale at the right time seeing as Fruitvale is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. Boles' road trip will continue as they head out to face Cooper at 6:30 p.m. on February 9th.
