Cannon hasn't had much luck against Providence Day recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Chargers at 5:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, Cannon came up short against Pro Stock Royals Academy and fell 7-2. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cannon got a good showing from Maddock Griffin, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Griffin has allowed since back in February.

At the plate, Mason Mierzwa and Colin Kieley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mierzwa went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Kieley went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Mierzwa is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Providence Day had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Chargers have posted since May 10, 2024.
Providence Day also got a great performance from Owen Shirey as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Shirey also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Chargers are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Cullen Ward was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Providence Day: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-10 otherwise.
Providence Day's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-10. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Cannon, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cannon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Providence Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Cannon skirted past Providence Day 2-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
