Independent is 10-0 against Chaparral since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Independent Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Chaparral Roadrunners at 6:00 p.m. Independent is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
Independent put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Garden Plain, posting a 57-18 victory at home. Given Independent's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Garden Plain is ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Chaparral came up short against Conway Springs on Tuesday and fell 50-39. Chaparral has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Independent's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Chaparral, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
Everything came up roses for Independent against Chaparral when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 60-23 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Independent since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
