The Westerly Bulldogs will head out to challenge the East Providence Townies at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Westerly is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
Westerly is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Barrington, who was ranked ninth at the time (Westerly was ranked 11th). The Bulldogs took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles on Wednesday.
Addison Poole was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Alison Maranda also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
East Providence came out on top against Cumberland on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Townies skirted past the Clippers 7-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Townies.
Marianna Pina made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple.
In other batting news, Ella Grimley was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Pimentel, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.
East Providence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
East Providence's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 6.2 runs. As for Westerly, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Westerly came up short against East Providence in their previous matchup back in May of 2016, falling 6-1. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
