After taking the lead in overtime,
Pomona (Calif.) held on for a 13-7 victory over
Baldwin Park (Calif.) on Saturday. The difference for the Red Devils was
Shawn Wison ran for a touchdown.
The Red Devils led 7-0 at halftime, but the Braves recaptured the lead on a Wison touchdown run with under a minute left in the fifth.
Apollo La Mig played well for Baldwin Park. The sophomore ran for one touchdown.
Pomona's standout player in the win was Wison. The sophomore ran for one touchdown and caught one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
BP's lone touchdown came on a 5-yard run by La Mig in the fourth quarter.
PHS entered the contest giving up 22.7 points per game this year. The Red Devils held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Braves right around the 8.6 points it had been averaging per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Pomona came away with a 49-14 victory.
The win was a nice bounce back for PHS, which lost to Wilson last week, 13-7.
Baldwin Park (0-8) will play a Valle Vista game against Northview next week, while Pomona (2-5) will take on Nogales also in a Valle Vista game.
