With a playoff game on the line, the Bessemer Academy Rebels rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They took down the Wildcats 76-61. Winning may never get old, but Bessemer Academy sure is getting used to it with their 12th in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bessemer Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Johnathan Winston, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Joshua Thompson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Bessemer Academy's lineup was just a bit different on Tuesday as Thompson got a bit more time on the court (25 vs. his season average of 13.05). Thompson made the most of the opportunity, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daniel Westbrook, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Thomas, who scored 13 points along with six assists and two steals.
Bessemer Academy pushed their record up to 22-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.8 points per game. As for Springwood, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 20-7.
Bessemer Academy will take on Glenwood at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Bessemer Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine matches. Springwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
