Galena extended their losing streak to seven on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-18-1 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the McQueen Lancers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-3 on Saturday.
Jordan Gurney and Taylor Cunningham stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gurney went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Cunningham went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Gurney's first of the season. Kylee Baker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
As for McQueen, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-11. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games.
On McQueen's side, Violet Moyao made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Moyao has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Maddie Hawkins was incredible, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilly Fanene, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Coming up, Galena will head out to face off against Douglas at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for McQueen, they will be playing at home against Carson at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Senators have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.58 runs per game on average), something the Lancers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
