The Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits will be playing at home against the Vista Murrieta Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Long Beach Poly has eight straight victories, Vista Murrieta has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Long Beach Poly put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They breezed by Jordan on the road to the tune of 56-14. Given Long Beach Poly's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Jordan is ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Darius Curry, who threw for 339 yards and seven touchdowns. Curry is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Colin Powell, who rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Vista Murrieta, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 35-21 loss to Murrieta Valley on Thursday.
Despite the loss, Vista Murrieta got a solid performance out of Alexander Vega, who gained 103 total yards and two touchdowns.
Long Beach Poly's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 10-1 Konawaena and 7-3 Serra (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.2% over those games). As for Vista Murrieta, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
