The Thornton Academy Trojans will take on the Scarborough Red Storm on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Thornton Academy 2.8, Scarborough 1.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Thornton Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Gorham, sneaking past 4-3.
Beck Edgerly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brennan Tabor was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. He has become a key player for Thornton Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4-1 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Scarborough faced South Portland in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Red Storm's pitcher stepped up to hand the Red Riots a 1-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Red Storm in their matchups with the Red Riots: they've now won three in a row.
Not much got past Erik Swenson, who gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks to keep South Portland off the board.
At the plate, Scarborough saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Fallona, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Denver Bachmann also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Thornton Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That lines up perfectly with their 13-4-1 record this season. As for Scarborough, their victory bumped their record up to 16-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Thornton Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Scarborough struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Thornton Academy couldn't quite get it done against Scarborough in their previous matchup back in May as they fell 5-2. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
