The Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Western Boone Stars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Guerin Catholic turned things around against Pike on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Red Devils. The high-scoring effort was just what the Golden Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Ava Augustinovicz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Augustinovicz was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Western Boone got themselves on the board against Frankfort on Thursday, but Frankfort never followed suit. They didn't even let the Hot Dogs on the board, marking their second-straight 13-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Like Guerin Catholic, Western Boone also got a great game from a two-way player: Mickey Burns. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Burns has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Addi Lee was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Payten Blankenship, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Western Boone's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Guerin Catholic, their record is now 7-9.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Guerin Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Western Boone struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Guerin Catholic suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Western Boone in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
