Hoosier Heritage recap September 24, 2013
Yorktown added to the longest winning streak in Hoosier Heritage this week by beating Delta, 27-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Tigers.
Mt. Vernon moved up to 80 from 109 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Marauders were able to move up by besting Pendleton Heights 35-7.
New Palestine's dynamic duo of Blake Luker and Tyler Walden proved tough for Whiteland to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Luker threw for 190 yards and 3 touchdowns and Walden had 156 yards receiving. Justin Wiggins helped New Palestine's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 22 yards.
The Dragons' dynamic duo of Luker and Walden proved to be unstoppable against the Warriors, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Luker put up the best numbers through the air as New Palestine defeated Whiteland.
He went 11-19 with 1 interception.
Jake Laker was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 187 yards on 28 carries as Shelbyville beat Darrin Fisher's team. Cody Curry also contributed to the rushing game with 20 yards on the ground.
Walden was the best receiver in Hoosier Heritage this week as the Dragons topped the Warriors.
New Palestine's Luker and Walden have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Luker has thrown for 1,034 yards this season, while Walden, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 40 catches for 663 yards. Laker from the Golden Bears leads the league in rushing with 712 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Yorktown takes on second place New Palestine.
