Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Willis Wildkats, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were dealt a 65-31 defeat at the hands of the Eagles on Friday. Willis' defeat signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Willis lost, one person who can't be blamed is Derek Lagway. Despite the final result, he threw for 335 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Lagway was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 68 yards. Jalen Mickens also helped out as he racked up 100 receiving yards.
Darius Bailey continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for DeSoto, throwing for 137 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. DeSoto also got a significant boost from Deondrae Riden jr., who ran away from the competition to the tune of 147 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to DeSoto's defensive line and their four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jamari Laye and Keylan Abrams who racked up four sacks between them.
Willis' defeat dropped their record down to 12-1. As for DeSoto, they have yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 12-0 record.
Willis does not have any more games scheduled as of now. DeSoto will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cedar Hill at 7:00 p.m. Cedar Hill is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
