Having upended Lake Stevens 52-20 in the
WIAA Class 4A state championship contest, the 14-0 Titans claimed their first state football title and earned the No. 83 ranking in
MaxPreps' National Rankings!
MaxPreps and the Washington Army National Guard were on hand to celebrate the many accomplishments of Titan football at halftime of the boys varsity basketball game against Skyview, a 72-55 Titan win. Upon arrival at lunchtime, the Tour of Champions set up and displayed the prestigious Army National Guard national ranking trophy.
Sergeant First Class Kirk Tyner and Staff Sergeant Robert Gauvin, both of the Washington Army National Guard, visited with students and handed out commemorative Tour of Champions t-shirts. Then, as they prepared for the trophy presentation, Union athletic director and head football coach Rory Rosenbach welcomed the Tour of Champions.
As intermission of the basketball game arrived, the Union PA announcer introduced MaxPreps representative Todd Gowin, who asked the Titans to come to center court to be recognized for their accomplishments and for winning a state championship. Gowin went on to explain to the audience of 2,000 screaming fans how MaxPreps selects the teams they honor. Gowin then introduced SSG Gauvin, who presented Rosenbach and the Titans with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy and a nationally ranked rafter banner as the raucous crowd erupted into elation. Union players and Rosenbach gathered with the Washington Army National Guard for photos at center court before conducting interviews with local media in the foyer.
Congratulations to Coach Rory Rosenbach and the Union Titans for winning your first state championship and for being one of only fifty football programs nationally to be honored on the 14th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. What an accomplishment to be ranked No. 83 out of over 17,000 varsity football teams!
