Hampton has gone 9-1 against Denbigh recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:30 p.m. Hampton is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Last Thursday, Hampton made easy work of Kecoughtan and carried off a 10-4 victory.
Jayden Valentine made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Jaycob Flores was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Toby Weymouth was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Hampton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Denbigh came up short against Gloucester last Thursday and fell 9-5. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Hampton, Denbigh also got a great game from a two-way player: Russel Clark. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Clark was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Clark wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Foote, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another was Luis Caez-Rodriquez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Hampton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Denbigh, they suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 4-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hampton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Denbigh struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Hampton's way against Denbigh when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Hampton made off with a 15-2 win. Will the Crabbers repeat their success, or do the Patriots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
