Cozad and McCook are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Cozad Haymakers will be playing at home against the McCook Bison at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cozad has five straight victories, McCook has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
A well-balanced attack led Cozad over Broken Bow in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Cozad strolled past Broken Bow with points to spare, taking the game 59-40. Given Cozad's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Broken Bow is ranked 216th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cozad's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olliver Davis, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Davis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Kellen Shoemaker was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, McCook came up short against Scottsbluff on Saturday and fell 59-52.

Cozad didn't have too much breathing room in their match against McCook in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 53-47 win. Will Cozad repeat their success, or does McCook have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
