TAPPS Division III District 1 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Lake Country Christian extended the longest winning streak in TAPPS Division III District 1 this week by beating Lubbock Christian, 21-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Sacred Heart moved up to 765 from 830 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers were able to make the jump by beating Temple Christian 40-0.
Tad Howard and Trey Epperson gave Lake Country Christian a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Howard threw for 70 yards and one touchdown, while Epperson ran for 107 yards. Teammate Kody Young added to the ground attack by rushing for 60 yards.
Spencer Starling was the best wideout in the league this week as the Eagles lost to Sacred Heart. Starling tallied three receptions for 65 yards. Chase Starling helped Temple Christian's passing attack out by catching one ball for 12 yards.
The Eagles' WILL STEPHENS and DREW THORNTON have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading TAPPS Division III District 1 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback STEPHENS has thrown for 710 yards this season, while THORNTON has 19 catches for 314 yards. Jordan Williams from Wade Whites' team leads the league in rushing with 454 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Temple Christian takes on Calvary Christian. Chuck Velasquez's team is currently in fourth, while the Conquerors are in second.
Dale Schilling's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,106 from 8,936. The advance stemmed from a 40-0 victory over the Eagles last week.
