Basketball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Davis' Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Davis unfortunately witnessed the end of their 12-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 67-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sumner Spartans. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Sumner was led to victory by Olivia M Collins and Kawehi Borden. M Collins shot 75% from the field on her way to 22 points along with eight boards and six assists, while Borden went 9-for-19 en route to 21 points in addition to eight assists and seven rebounds. What's more, M Collins also posted an 80% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madison Hughes, who posted nine points.

Davis' defeat dropped their record down to 20-3. As for Sumner, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season.

Davis will face off against Mead at 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Davis' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. Sumner does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
