Basketball Game Preview: St. Edward's Pirates vs. Florida Prep Falcons

The St. Edward's Pirates will take on the Florida Prep Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

St. Edward's saw some tournament action on Saturday. They fell just short of Lighthouse Private Christian Academy by a score of 67-65.

St. Edward's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Gary Anderson, who dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 15 boards, and ten blocks, and Cody Simmonds, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. The match was Simmonds' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Cole Register, who posted eight points.

Even though they lost, St. Edward's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 12 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Florida Prep had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.3 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. They blew past the War Eagles 69-46. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 22 points or more this season.

Florida Prep has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for St. Edward's, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
