Mesa Verde has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Mesa Verde Mavericks and the Yuba City Honkers will round out the year against one another at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at. Mesa Verde will be strutting in after a victory while Yuba City will be coming in after a loss.
Mesa Verde scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They took down John Adams Academy 58-42. That looming 58-42 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Mesa Verde yet this season.
Mesa Verde can attribute much of their success to Ryan Jorgensen, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Maanav Shergill, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Yuba City was the victim of a rough 77-53 loss at the hands of Del Oro on Friday. Yuba City was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-28.
Defeat or not, Yuba City got some senior leadership from Anthony Medina who scored 19 points and Saleem Rafiq who scored 17 points. The contest was Rafiq's 11th in a row with at least ten points.
Mesa Verde's win ended a 15-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-8. As for Yuba City, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
