South Spencer hasn't had much luck against Evansville Reitz recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Rebels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. South Spencer is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
South Spencer made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hancock County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Rebels fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 4-2 on Friday. The contest marked the Rebels' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Alexis Harris made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Evansville Reitz ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They skirted past Terre Haute South Vigo 8-7.
Ella Ellerbrook tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over nine innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ava Leeds was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Tatum Brown, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Evansville Reitz kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Evansville Reitz is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for South Spencer, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Evansville Reitz's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Spencer has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. It's a different story for Evansville Reitz, though, as they've only averaged .351. Will they be able to contain South Spencer's hitters?
