Cameron and Spooner are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Comets are taking a road trip to take on the Rails at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Cameron has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Spooner will arrive with three straight victories.
Cameron lost 8-1 to Webster on Thursday.
Cameron saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryker Ebert, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Jonas Martinson also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Spooner and Northwestern have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Rails put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 12-2 win. The Rails might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by nine runs or more this season.
Evan Potaczek made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Sobralski, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Spenser Griffeth, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one double.
Spooner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Spooner's record is now 13-2. As for Cameron, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Cameron might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from Spooner in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
