Rio Linda (Calif.) jumped out to an early lead against
Bella Vista (Fair Oaks, Calif.) and never looked back on the way to a 35-14 victory on Saturday.
The Knights put up 14 points in the opening frame. Rio Linda scored on a
Justin Hopelian touchdown run and a touchdown run by
Dustin Rossiter.
After taking the lead on a Hopelian touchdown run in the first quarter, RL led 27-14 at the half.
The Knights expanded their lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. Rio Linda scored two times in the third, including once on a
Marcel Brown touchdown run.
The Broncos'
Austin Harmer played well. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
RL's most effective player was Rossiter. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
The Knights came into the game allowing 12.6 points per game. Bella Vista's 14 points were below its season average of 19.6 per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Rio Linda came away with a 47-29 victory.
Bella Vista (3-3) goes up against Casa Roble in a Capital Valley game matchup next week, while Rio Linda (5-1) locks horns with Christian Brothers also in a Capital Valley game.
